This is my Rifle, this is my gun.
This is for fighting, this is for fun.
I'm Gustave. Ever since I was a youngin' I wanted to be a soldier, a hero for my country. Coming into this war was why I was born, and I won't let my country down. Respect!
My love, Hortense
We're going to get married when this war is over, she's anxiously waiting as you can see in that picture I took.
Why we're in this War:
Imperialism caused this war. Germany started this war as well. We decided to work with Russia, and Germany then declared war. Britain, Russia, and us are all in this together. Germany, Austria-Hungary, and Italy joined forces against us, but we ain't scared. We're going to beat those germans, and become the most powerful country in Europe. I'm quite confident that our forces will bring Germany down, and if we are to fall, we won't go down without a fight. I miss Hortense, and my family, but with the love and support they all give me, I know I will be able to make a difference in this war.
Assasination:
June 28, 1914, the Archduke Franz Ferdinan was assasinated by a Serbian terrorist group called "Black Hand."
Even though the Archduke had been warned he carelessly ignored them and went to Sarajevo as he planned in an open roofed car, along side him was his wife. When the couple's driver mistakenly got lost, he decided to take a back road, which was a bad idea. "Black Hand" opened fire, shooting the Archduke's wife twice, and the Archduke himself once, they were both killed. This whole thing would never have happened if Austria-Hungary made the right choice of teaming up with us, but it's their mistake, and sadly they have to pay the consequences.
Our war plan:
To keep us safe from enemies we have dug trenches out. We have a large stock of artillery, and our weapons are powerful. Lately hope's been teetering, with all that has gone on. But still, I refuse to back down. I will always fight for my country, and try to keep up the morale of my brother soldiers. I haven't been able to write to Hortense lately, but our love is strong enough to hold us together in times when we are apart. It's so hard for me to catch any shut eye, or to even stay comfortable, a weird feeling in the pit of my stomach is starting to sicken me.
Propoganda:
These pos
Give your gold!
ters are what's up! They are examples of just a few of our proproganda posters. Any way to spread the word about war is highly respected.
Propoganda posters
These posters are posted everywhere around France. They both tell to "Give your gold" in some manner, which encourages anyone and everyone to help with the war. Propoganda is a very big part of these two posters, as many others as well. So listen to the posters, alright? Give your gold! It's for a great cause!
USA in - Russia out:
On April Fourth, 1917, the United States of America joined the war, which shows how much the war has escaladed. The United States wouldn't be involved if it wasn't for those no good germans. They had their big fancy submarines attack both merchant and passenger ships. Russia has fallen. After three harsh years, they had to give in, so they signed a treaty with the Germans, what a big mistake! The war was too much for them, they just didn't have what it takes to win. So now I can't help but to find myself worrying because now that Russia is gone, they will probably focus more attention on us. I hope Hortense isn't getting worried, because of all of this mish-mash going on, I haven't been able to write me' lady at all. So hopefully she can feel my presence, even with me being so far away. I love you Hortense, you're going to be a great wife and mother.
The treaty meeting
the picture above shows a picture of Georges Clemenceau, our leader's head, with the body of a tiger. His nickname is "The Tiger"
The Treaty of Versailles:
Georges Clemenceau is a great man, with a great mind. He knew that this was Germany's fault, and so for that, they need to PAY! They have made us suffer so much, they have destroyed so many of our homes and factories, it's not right. Then came the Treaty of Versailles, which was a treaty to vow that a war this terrible would never happen again. Germany gave back Alsace-Lorraine, which we obviously deserved. And Germany has to pay billions of dollars in reparations to us, so that we can rebuild our country, or at least the factories and homes we lost. Besides that we don't need to really rebuild much of our country, power-wise. We got what we wanted, and even though we deserved more, I'm pretty content with this all, we never could have done it without our strong forces and our great leader, Georges Clemenceau. So hopefully this tradegdy of a war, WWI, will never happen again. I went into this war as a young man who was obsessed with winning, and then I realized that it isn't always a win if you're losing more than you're gaining. I've also realized that war isn't just a battle between your enemies, but a battle within yourself.
